A Winter Photography Adventure in Ludington
Ludington Michigan is photogenic. What do we mean by that? Well, there are so many different spots, features, landmarks and more that lead to great photography opportunities. Over the past two winters we visited Ludington after fresh snowfalls to experience what we refer to as "snow globe days."

We started our photography adventure by heading to Trails End Baking Company for coffee and breakfast. This was the perfect start to the day and the entire theme fit with the days plans. Here is a recommendation. Get a cruffin!

Fueled up with coffee we made our way to the beach to get shots of the North Breakwater Light and the channel filled with ice. From this spot we were also able to get views of the SS Badger in port for the winter. A lighthouse surrounded by ice makes for great photo opportunities!

Next up was to head out to Ludington State Park. A portion of the state park is currently closed for renovations but there are still 2,000 acres open to explore. The trails were perfect for snowshoeing with the fresh snowfall so we geared up and headed out. There was something special about this day in terms of the wildlife. We don't consider ourselves "birders" but we do like capturing photos of birds if they are cooperating. We often see a lot of birds at Ludington State Park but today was like no other! A few highlights were cardinals, blue jays and a bald eagle.

One of our all-time favorite spots is Big Sable Point Lighthouse. While we couldn't get out to it on this day, we had to include a few photos from our last winter visit for a bit of motivation for next winter!

One other winter activity we included was a stop at the iconic House of Flavors. While House of Flavors may be bet known for its ice cream, we had great burgers and until April 30, dining-in after 11:00 AM includes a free dessert so we went with Michigan Pot Hole ice cream!

Overall, if you have been doing photography for a long time, are brand new to it or just have fun taking photos with your phone, add a winter visit to Ludington to your future photography adventures!
