While some of the tasks are easier than others, they are all fun in their own way and all of this can be accomplished in and around Sault Ste. Marie!

• Visit Tahquamenon Falls

After a scenic drive from the Soo, Tahquamenon Falls is a classic Michigan destination. While it is amazing during any season, a winter visit is especially magical. 

• Downtown Sault Ste. Marie coffee walk

Grab a coffee and take a stroll through downtown. You can go through the Soo Locks park in the winter and depending on what time of winter you are there, you can even catch an icy freighter going through the Locks. The Locks close to boat traffic from mid-January to mid-March.

• Snowshoe in Sault Ste. Marie

We always believe that it is fun to be able to get out and snowshoe at a great trail close to town. There are a variety of options available in Sault Ste. Marie including the Chi Mukwa Trail, Sault Seal Recreation Area Lynn Trail System, or the new Southern Ashmun Creek Loop. 

• Eat takeout and watch the Sugar Island Ferry or freighters

No matter what the time of year, the Sugar Island Ferry is running across the St. Mary's River even if the freighters are not running. Grab takeout from a restaurant and head down to Rotary Park and enjoy the views.

• International Bridge Selfie

Grab a selfie with the iconic International Bridge connecting Michigan and Canada.

• Recreate a summer photo

Find a spot where you have a photo from a summer visit in Sault Ste. Marie and recreate it with a summer backdrop. If you don't have a summer photo to start with, take the winter photo first and return in summer!

• Catch a snowflake

Here is an easy one and it can be done anywhere, it just needs to be snowing!

• Slide down Sault Seal Recreation Area 

Head to the tubing hill or bring your own sled. Either way, fun is ready to be had. We believe that the tubing runs here are some of the fastest in the state!

• Say "Oh look, Canada!"

In many spots in Sault Ste. Marie, you can look across the St. Mary's River and see Sault Ste. Marie. Ontario, Canada.

• Stand on Lake Superior's edge

There are many amazing spots near Sault Ste. Marie to visit Lake Superior, with each season offering its own unique views. 

• BONUS: Go Snowmobiling!

As a bonus on the bucket list, snowmobiling in and around Sault Ste. Marie is a great time. There are many places right within Sault Ste. Marie that are accessible to snowmobiles and many trails that lead out to endless adventures!
